Countess signs music venue deal

Music promoters have said a 700-year-old castle in the Highlands is to become a major music venue after signing a contract with its owners.

Cawdor Castle, near Inverness, hosted the wedding reception of Take That singer Mark Owen last month.

Owners Angelika Cawdor the Dowager Countess of Cawdor and Cawdor Castle Limited have signed a contract with CK Events. The deal runs until 2014.

The castle's grounds could be used for gigs and concerts.

CK Events, which is helping to arrange an appearance by singer Rod Stewart in Inverness next year, said outdoor concerts for up to 8,000 people could be held at Cawdor. It has promised to bring leading singers and bands to the venue.

Lady Cawdor said: "This represents yet another step in the progression of Cawdor Castle Limited.

"With 70% of our visitors coming from overseas, it is important that we also provide the local community with a new venue and a wider variety of music."
